On May 15, 2008, thousands of Lilly employees in nearly 50 nations are rolling up their sleeves to help address local community needs in celebration of Lilly’s first-ever Global Day of Service, possibly the largest corporate volunteer initiative to ever take place on one day.

Lilly Backs Federal Legislation to Inform the Public on Payments to Physicians

Lilly announced its support of the newly revised Physicians Payments Sunshine Act, sponsored by United States Senators Charles Grassley (R-Iowa) and Herbert Kohl (D-Wisconsin). The bipartisan bill would establish a national registry of payments to physicians by medical device, medical supply and pharmaceutical companies. Lilly is the first pharmaceutical research company to back such federal legislation, which is similar to various laws in place in several states.

Lilly Reports Solid First-Quarter Results

Lilly announced the financial results for the first quarter of 2008. Q1 Reported Results: - Sales increased 14 percent, to $4.808 billion.
- Products launched this decade: Alimta®, Byetta®, Cialis®, Cymbalta®, Forteo®, Strattera®, Symbyax®, Xigris® and Yentreve® -- collectively grew 33 percent, to $1.678 billion, and accounted for 35 percent of total sales, compared with 30 percent of total sales in the first quarter of 2007.

Lilly Launches Its First Phase III Trial for Treatment of Alzheimer's Disease

Lilly announced the start of a Phase III clinical trial studying LY450139, an investigational gamma secretase inhibitor for the treatment of mild to moderate Alzheimer's disease. LY450139 is being tested to see if it can slow the progression associated with Alzheimer's disease by inhibiting gamma-secretase, an enzyme that can create a sticky protein called amyloid beta.

Lilly Grants US$4.4 Million to the WHO for MDR-TB Program Expansion

Lilly announced its four-year grant of US$4,384,000 to the World Health Organization (WHO) for scaling up its global capacity to manage multi-drug resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) program
